Applications
The Alpha mix range of high-shearing vertical mixers provides a solution for
dispersion, emulsification, homogenization, or disintegration of a wide range
of solid materials in the food-processing, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and fine
chemicals industries. They can be used in both open and atmospheric-pressure
closed tanks, and with both low- and high-viscosity materials. For high-viscosity
materials they are typically used in conjunction with an anchor-type agitator.
Operating principle
The Rotor/Stator system provides a high shearing power through high rotor
speed combined with a closely-adjusted tolerance between the rotor and the
stator. The material is suctioned through the lower part of the head and then
the impeller pushes it radially. The mechanical shearing takes place when the
material passes through the openings in the stator. Particles are sheared by
the cutting rotor at more than 20m/s. The hydraulic cut is effected by the high-
speed jet expelled by the stator, which generates a strong circulation below
the surface.
