A Clear Guide to Toggle Clamp Replacement

Farleygreene has recently introduced the Cast Stainless Handle (CSH) across our Sievmaster® Slimline range – an industrial sieve toggle clamp designed to enhance hygiene, improve ergonomics and simplify maintenance in industrial sieving equipment.

Now that many customers are ready to make the switch, here’s how to upgrade your existing clamps safely and efficiently.

Why Upgrade to the Cast Stainless Handle?

Farleygreene has engineered the CSH to meet the strict hygiene and safety requirements of the pharmaceutical, food, and powder processing industries.

This upgrade supports a range of industrial sieve machines including rotary sieves, linear vibratory sieves, and check sieves for powders, ensuring reliable performance across your entire production line.

Before You Begin

Before replacing any toggle clamps, always remove the gallery, mesh ring and funnel (the panwork) from your industrial sieve machine. Operators can handle smaller units, such as the Sievmaster® 550, individually, while lifting larger models like the Sievmaster® 950 and above requires two or more people.

How to Change to the Cast Stainless Handle

  1. Remove the panwork from the machine prior to working on any clamps or earthing connections.
  2. Using your tools, loosen the nuts and fixings on the existing toggle clamp.
  3. Carefully remove the old clamp, leaving the bolts in place on the machine.
  4. Slide the new CSH onto the existing bolts.
  5. Refit and tighten the nuts, alternating between sides to ensure even pressure and alignment. Gradually tighten each fixing, going back and forth until both are fully secure. Avoid tightening one side completely before the other, as this can cause uneven pressure and misalignment.
  6. Finally, position the clamps correctly to secure the mesh and panwork before restarting the machine. If a clamp sits incorrectly, vibration may loosen it and detach the fixings and clamp during operation.

For machines with the earthing kit, reattach the earthing connection after installing the clamps. This earths the mesh ring to the machine, safely discharging static while allowing quick removal for cleaning and maintenance.

A Small Change That Makes a Big Difference

Upgrading your toggle clamps is a simple way to improve hygiene, operator comfort, and compliance across your sieving line. The Cast Stainless Handle complements Farleygreene industrial sieves, helping you maintain consistent performance and safety standards.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

1. What machines are compatible with the new industrial sieve toggle clamp?
The new stainless-steel toggle clamp is compatible with a wide range of industrial sieving equipment, including rotary sieves, linear vibratory sieves, and check sieves for powders. This design fits seamlessly across the Farleygreene Sievmaster® Slimline range and retrofits to most machines.

2. Do I need any special tools to fit the new toggle clamps?
You don’t need special tools to replace the clamps on your industrial sieves. A standard socket wrench and allen key are all you need. Before performing maintenance, always remember to power down the industrial sieve machine and remove the panwork (gallery, mesh ring, and funnel) before performing maintenance.

3. Can I fit the new clamps myself, or should it be done by an engineer?
Operators familiar with industrial sieving equipment maintenance can usually install the new toggle clamps themselves.

4. How often should I inspect or replace the toggle clamps?
Toggle clamps on any sifter or sieve should be checked as part of routine maintenance. Regular inspections help identify signs of wear or misalignment early, ensuring your screening equipment continues to perform safely and efficiently. Frequency will depend on operating conditions and material type.

5. Do the new toggle clamps require any additional maintenance?
The stainless-steel toggle clamps are designed for durability and minimal maintenance. For general guidance on maintenance and safe operation, refer to the Farleygreene user manuals.
